Week 1 - Post Launch

Like getting ready to throw a big bash - are the tablecloths ironed? Is there enough food? Are we sure we sent invitations to all the right people? Well, launch happened on Thursday and while we are sure we sent invitations out, maybe all the tablecloths weren't pressed........

Thank you ~ one and all ~ for your input and insights and feedback. They are much appreciated. From you we have learned that you loved our Coming Soon lists on the old website, that you very much use the Prospector link for obtaining materials and seek easy access to the downloadables.

For those of you following or finding the blog, answers to the findability of these three things is provided here:

  • Coming Soon lists have been replaced by Recently Ordered lists. Look for these in the Books, Movies and Music tabs in the Browse boxes
  • Prospector can be found when you are looking at your search results. In the left box labelled Search scroll down to find the Search other libraries using Prospector link. At this time, the search you performed does not carry over to Prospector.
  • Downloadables can be found under the Books tab > Browse box > Audiobooks or the OnDemand tab > Online Books.
Issues we quickly resolved include handling items placed in your cart for ease of checkout. Next on our list ~ this week ~ is improving the loading speed of the site.

Keep your comments coming!

Your recently ordered lists are almost worthless at 8 or so a page with 49 pages to sift through it takes way too much time and effort to use. For me your coming soon category was one of my most used links and now it appears to be gone?

Also there are too many graphics on each page taking up too much room so that one has to search through multiple pages when efficient use of space could eliminate a lot of time searching multiples of pages (and the download time it takes between pages).

All in all there are a few nice new things on your web page. I find it takes significantly more mouse clicks and sorting through more pages to find what I want than before, so overall I would give the redo a poor rating.

Your opening page for the Arapahoe Library website has pictures of books or movies in the middle prime space, it doesn't say which or why they are displayed. Are they new, popular, adult, children or what - in other words why are they taking up so much room on a prime area of your webpage unspecified?

It takes several pages to find the search catalog. As this is typically the most important part of the library website for me (along with the my account details such as online renewal) it would be convenient to find the catalog on the homepage, or at least a very obvious link to it.

Overall the new site has too much glitz and pictures and too much work to find the useful substance (and when the substance is displayed it displays too few items per page, requiring a lot of scrolling and searching through multiple pages - in other words more time consuming than your old site)

Dear Anonymous commenters ~

I wanted to take a moment to reply to your input. Thank you for letting us know about how you feel!

We realize the Coming Soon lists were a very popular feature of our old website and are working to present them, once again, on the new website. Look for changes this week!

As for finding the search catalog, the box is placed in the upper right corner of every page.
